Seijin no Hi 2008, Kobe
Jan 14th, 2008 by Ad Blankestijn
Today was Seijin no Hi, the day with Coming of Age ceremonies - see my post of last year about the meaning of this day. I had almost forgotten about it until I spotted these young women in their gorgeous kimono near Sannomiya in Kobe.

There is still tradition in Japan.

Even in modern Kobe.

With a modern hue, of course, but there is nothing wrong with that.

But where were most of these new adults headed?

… not to the shrines, as in Kyoto, but to the various game halls near the Sannomiya station!
P.S. Here is a nice series of pictures from the Mainichi showing that even roller coaster rides are popular on this day!

Thank you for both posts (2007 and 2008) about Seijin no Hi, pleasant photographs and the Mainichi link (especially young women practising kyudo at the Sanjusangen-do Shrine). Your blog is so precisely documented and it’s a pleasure to read it and muse around. Best regards.
Thank you for your comment, Furoshiki!
