Kinkakuji in the snow
Jan 7th, 2007 by Ad Blankestijn
This morning it was snowing in Kyoto, so I did what everyone is supposed to do under such circumstances: I hastened to the Golden Pavilion, Kinkakuji, to take the famous snow pictures. Kinkakuji took some time to reach (it is after all 40 min from Kyoto St), so when I arrived around noon the snow had turned into sleet. There were lots of people, perhaps also because of the long weekend, and everyone looked very wet.

Although the snow was not heavy enough for a famous shot, it was nice to be back here after more than fifteen years – usually when I am in Kyoto I skip tourist temples like Kinkakuji.
I also took the opportunity to upload new photos to my article on Kinkakuji, which I put a few months ago on this site, but which was in fact written years ago for my former website, The Japan Pages. Have a look if you haven’t read it yet!
